joanrivers

Hate her, Love her, what’s there not to? E! Fashion Police host, Joan Rivers has entered most black books yet she has entertained the world for over 50 years. She was and still is beautiful and captures the definitions of strong, smart and determined so easily that it may irritate or motivate you.

Hahahaha…one of those things!
She was born Joan Alexandra Molinsky on June 8, 1933 to Russian Jewish immigrants Meyer Molinskyand Beatrice Grushman in Brooklyn. She went to schools but had a BA in English Literature and anthropology from the Barnard College in 1954. After college, Joan earned her salaries as a tour guide at the Rockefeller Center and later as a writer then a fashion consultant at Bond Clothing Stores.
The TV personality got her first TV gig in the late 1950s in a six weeks short-run play Driftwood as a lesbian with a crush on a then Barbra Streisand. From there to 1970s, Joan Molinsky who had changed her name to Joan Rivers thanks to a friend Tony Rivers, had appeared on countless dramas and even released her two comedy albums: The Next Last Joan Rivers Album and Rivers Presents Mr. Phyllis & Other Funny Stories.
A younger Joan Rivers
In the 80s, Joan enjoyed massive popularity as a bonafied comedian and was even termed till date theQueen of Comedy. She hosted the famous Saturday Night Live in 1983 and further released a best-selling comedy album titled, “What Becomes a Semi Legend Most?” which reached No. 22 on US Billboard 200 and got a Grammy Award nomination for Best Comedy Album. Another book, The Life and Hard Times of Heidi Abramowitz became a best seller but the TV special on the character couldn’t succeed. She also matched to court in 1986 with Frank Marino for using her real stand-up materials in his popular Las Vegas Act.
Joan & Edgar Rosenberg (1925 – 1987)
In 1987, Joan lost her husband, Edgar Rosenburg to suicide after both were fired by Fox executives when she challenged them not to sack her hubby as producer of her TV show. However she went ahead to win an Emmy in 1990 for The Joan Rivers Show (ran for 5 years). Then in 1994, the talk show host and daughter Melissa Rosenburg and later Melissa Rivers hosted the E! Entertainment Televisionpre-awards show for the Golden Globes Awards before moving to the 1995 Academy Awards. In 2009Rivers won the Celebrity Apprentice and in 2005, she became one of the four Americans invited toPrince Charles and Camilla’s wedding in England.
Joan Rivers & Camilla Parker Bowles
In 2006, Joan Rivers featured on the adult animated show, Drawn Together as Princess Clara’s vaginathat had received too many plastic surgeries. In the show, Clara’s vajoana kept asking “Who are you wearing, who are you wearing?” and that’s how the famous and most popular red carpet question was born. She carried the famous question onto the red carpet to tease Hollywood celebrities on their outfits. Her redundant answer seeking method and comic celebrity jokes on duty forced stars to pay keen attention to their every public appearance so they don’t get mocked by the ‘crazy old lady’. She also faced heavy criticisms from the media on her multiple plastic and cosmetic surgeries. the host, as usual simply accepted the charges on live TV and asked every one to move on!

In 2010, Rivers began the largely followed E! Fashion Police Show alongside George Kotsiopolos, Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne as a thirty minutes show. But by March 2012, E! took it up to an hour given the number of viewers they attracted all over the world.
Joan Rivers is a mother and grandmother and recently celebrated her 80th anniversary as a successful, strong and loving business woman. Yes, her harsh comments may get you mad but as she says all the time, “I’m just doing my job!” She has inspired a multitude and is still in the business of television (Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best) till further notice.
Go read her book and get all you need to know about the Television Icon.
